A week old!!

Emmett is officially a week old and let me tell you, David and I have learned so much in this last week it's amazing!!! We mostly have learned that we are so blessed, our new babe is absolutely amazing in every way, he's adorable, healthy and happy. We also are blessed with amazing family and friends, providing us with food, extra sets of hands for laundry and errands and evening packing our apartment and we will be eternally thankful.

David is, as so many of you expected a natural dad, so comfortable carrying this little bundle around, changing his diapers and putting clean clothes on him. It's so wonderful for me to see the two of them together and awesome to hear when David gets home from school how much he's missed us and how all he does all day is talk about us :-) But who couldn't, Emmett is just so darn cute and hopefully over the next couple months everyone will get to meet him.

Emmett so far is such a laid back babe, he sleeps 3-4hrs, eats, hangs out and then sleeps again. Which means my recovery is going really well. Except tonight, for some reason I can't get back to sleep and it's now 4:16am and I'm blogging but as the midwife and duhla said, I'm on Emmett's schedule now so when he sleeps I should be sleeping even if it's 10am or 3pm, take advantage.

Well more amazing pictures and stories to come!!!

Finally Stage

My due date is only 3weeks away, I feel like there is so much I need to do but also nothing that will really prepare me to bring home this new little boy. David and I are so excited, we are learning as much as we can about how to prepare ourselves for one of the hardest things we'll ever do both the labor and being parents.

We've been taking Bradley Natural Birth Classes, they have been amazing in educating us on the process and preparing us for everything to come. We still have more to learn and I'm sure when the day comes it will be a shock that it's actually happening but we are getting there in prep. Last night David prepared an ice bath for me, I know it's crazy, but supposedly it is excellent practice to sit in the ice bath for 40-60 seconds and learn how to relax your body completely while in pretty extreme discomfort. David talked me through the whole thing and we completed 5, totally crazy but hopefully it will help.

My mom also held a wonderful baby shower for us last weekend, which was a total blast with friends and family from throughout my life and has supplied us with a lot of the basics and some really amazing extras. So thank you to all the ladies that could attend and we missed some who were out of town.

New Years Adventure

This New Years Eve we had a wonderful opportunity to do a backpacking trip in Franconia Notch to Lonesome Lake Hut with some great friends. The weather was quite warm which was a pleasant surprise, we enjoyed an amazing potluck dinner: including chips and guacamole, quiche, chicken, gingerbread, cookies, and mulled cider.

6mo!

I know, I know, everyone keeps telling me, update your blog!! So here it is, Dec 28th, a couple days after a big snow dump on MA/Eastern US and David and I are so happy for all the blessings we have in our life. We just spent a wonderful weekend with my family, celebrating Christmas and relaxing. We celebrated with extended family the life of my father's crazy cousin Rookie who sadly passed away the weekend before Christmas but lives in grand, hilarious memories in all our hearts and minds. We will be able to spend sometime with David's family later this week to celebrate Christmas together. And of course there is this little boy growing inside me, unbelievable right!!!

Our son is growing rapidly and quickly making tying my shoes much harder and all my clothes now say Motherhood or something like this on the inside tag. I don't know if I'm ready for this yet but he's coming. It's so crazy!!! David continues to be so wonderful and supportive, helping out with everything around the house and all the errands, of course it also helps that he's on vacation right now. However despite vacation he's been busy keeping up with me and getting ready to send in his grad school applications.

That's right, David's still applying to grad school even with a baby on the way (Univ of New Mexico, Arizona State Univ and Mass Art). I know we are slightly crazy but we expect you all to visit and be full time babysitters when you come. :-) We'll find out where he is accepted and make a decision on where we are going just about the time that the new babe arrives. Busy month of April!!

But even with all this celebrating, work, school, applications...we still find time to play. The weekend before Christmas we went up to Warren, VT to a beautiful b&b just south of Burlington for a long weekend. It was so beautiful. With some snow and sunny days, we enjoyed some hikes, visiting with friends, good food and lots of relaxing.

I am doing well, still feeling sick in the morning but the medication is making a huge difference and I finally have some energy to hang out with people. David is doing great, super excited and always toting on me. Below is some great pictures of our babe, a profile picture and evidence of it being a him!!!

Beartown State Forest

David, Olive and I were finally able to get out of the city and into the woods to soak in some fresh air at Beartown State Forest in western MA. We were able to catch the tail end of the foliage and some last warm rays of sun.
